I made a boo boo!! For all those following my last 3D World article with the Steampunk bird, there was a typo. Sorry about this, totally my fault (unless I can blame it on lack of coffee?!) but it will cause the script to break. Where the code says:
xform -scale 0.7 0 0.7;
to scale the four corner edges, it should actually read:
xform -scale 0.7 1 0.7;
The scale in y needs to remain unchanged and as with many values in Maya this is denoted with a 1, so anything less than 1 scales it down and anything greater than 1 scales it up. If you leave the number at zero it will therefore scale it to zero. I hope it hasn't caused any of you too much vexation and you haven't cursed the day you started my tute! Thanks to Chris Cook for pointing it out.
In other news I've got a few image breakdowns on the way from the last couple of 3D World articles and other bits of work, I'm just rendering out the wireframes and putting it all together. Hopefully these should be on my Vimeo site and up here in a week or so. It's not exactly a spoiler but one of them has a frog and a fly in it and who doesn't like frogs? Until that
